Santa Claus to visit Atlantic Avenue In Brooklyn
November 19, 2003 Brooklyn, NY -- On Thursday, December 4 at 6:00
p.m. the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation will host
the annual Atlantic Avenue Tree Lighting ceremony at the Belarusian
Church, corner of Atlantic Avenue and Bond Street in Brooklyn.
City Councilman David Yassky will officiate the tree lighting
and also announce the winners of Atlantic Avenue's Window Design
Competition. Santa Claus will be there to greet children
and take their letters and wishes. The choruses of PS 261
and PS 38 will perform Christmas carols.
The Atlantic
Avenue Window Design Competition is based on artistic merchandising
and creative window display. The award is given to merchants for
their aesthetic contribution to the neighborhoods of Brooklyn
Heights, Cobble Hill, Downtown Brooklyn and Boreum Hill. The 2002
winner was Care Partners Charity Thrift Shop at 475 Atlantic Ave.
Judging the 2003 competition will be choreographer Mark Morris,
Boreum Hill artist Margaret Cusack, State Assemblywoman
Joan Millman, PS38 PTA President Mary-Powel Thomas
and sculptor Alex Racine who is based on Atlantic Avenue.
The event
is free and open to the public. Children are welcome to bring
their letters to Santa. Holiday cookies and hot cider will be
provided compliments of Downtown Atlantic Bakery & Restaurant
and Pete's Waterfront Ale House. The Zagat Brooklyn Guide
will be available for sale at the event.

Atlantic Avenue's Holiday Tree and Lighting Ceremony is sponsored
by The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation, a Section
501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization committed to the economic
development of the Atlantic Avenue area from Fourth Avenue to
the waterfront in Brooklyn, New York.
The organization's activities include implementation of streetscape
improvements, historic storefront preservation, advocacy on issues
of importance to the retail and residential community and organizing
