THE 36TH ANNUAL ATLANTIC ANTIC STREET FESTIVAL
Sunday, September 26, 2010
Eat it at the Antic, Walk it off on Atlantic!
(August 12, 2010, Brooklyn, NY) The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC) is proud to announce that the date for the 36th Annual Atlantic Antic Street Festival will be Sunday, September 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., rain or shine. Bringing together the city’s most eclectic local artisans, food vendors and merchants, New York’s biggest and most celebrated street festival is the perfect way to enjoy all that the borough has to offer. The Antic will be ringing in its 36th year in style with even more to explore as you stroll down the mile-long fair, stretching from Fourth Avenue to Hicks Street and through the heart of brownstone Brooklyn. Atlantic Antic attendees, from the first-timers to the veterans, will find endless ways to enjoy the avenue’s sights, sounds and surprises.
Indulge in the array of gastronomical delights on each block guilt-free, as you walk it off along the avenue! Enjoy both the sweet and savory local offerings on display, from lobster rolls from the Red Hook Lobster Pound, to Steve’s Key Lime Pie on a stick. Jenna Park of Whimsy and Spice is thrilled to be coming back to the Antic for their second time in a row to sell their delicious homemade marshmallows, cookies, brownies and drinks. “We don't participate in other NYC street fairs, but the Atlantic Antic is special,” she says. “It’s a great way for us to reach a wider, massive audience with our products as the Antic attracts people from all boroughs and beyond.”
Alexis Grossman from Crop to Cup, a local farmer-friendly coffee company that sells its beans at the Atlantic Coop (139 Atlantic Avenue), enjoys the energy and opportunities of the street festival and the mix of people who come out each year. “Being involved in the Atlantic Antic has given our store the opportunity to get acquainted with like-minded individuals from around the neighborhood and the city,” she says. “It's incredible how much of an impact you can make in one day.”
With ten live musical stages along the avenue—featuring blues, rock, country, R&B, jazz, and a Middle Eastern Orchestra with belly dancers, the diverse sounds of Brooklyn will be out in full force. Kids will also have the chance to enjoy some afternoon tunes, with acts like Joanne Riel’s interactive “Musical Gumbo,” Graciela’s “Musica Para Mi,” “Rolie Polie Guacamole,” and more!
The local artisans and craftspeople who show their work at the Antic are unlike any others: whether you’re in the market for printed tees from Rock Star Revolution or baby clothes for charity from Bugsella, the Atlantic Antic is the place to be. “The Antic has remained a staple of Brooklyn and the city at large year after year because of the eclectic vendors who show their wares, the incredible boutiques and restaurants along the avenue, and the amazing crowd it attracts,” says Angela Ferrante, president of the AALDC. “We’re thrilled to be able to continue the tradition of this wonderful street festival for another year.”
The Atlantic Antic is presented by the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC). The AALDC, originally formed in 1974, is a not-for-profit organization committed to the economic development of the Atlantic Avenue area from Fourth Avenue to the East River waterfront in Brooklyn, New York.
