The 35th annual Atlantic Antic was a Huge Success!

The 35th annual Atlantic Antic, held October 4th, 2009 was an event not to be missed! On a perfectly sunny Brooklyn day, the Atlantic Antic drew 1 million attendees onto Atlantic Avenue to celebrate the Antic’s longstanding tradition of eclectic food, festivities, and fun! From start to finish, Atlantic Avenue was a sea of people exploring a variety of 600 vendors while grooving to music from nine live performance stages.

This year Atlantic Antic organizers introduced The Festival Favorite Food Award, which gave attendees the opportunity to vote on their favorite ANTIC FOOD! Hundreds of votes were collected throughout the day at the Brooklyn Community Foundation booths throughout the festival. After votes were tallied, the Brooklyn Community Foundation enthusiastically presented The Festival Favorite Food Award to Sahadi’s for their spread of delicious and popular middle-eastern cuisine.

Thank you to all participants and visitors to this year’s Atlantic Antic. We hope you will join us next year for the 36th annual Atlantic Antic, scheduled for Sunday, September 26th!

The Atlantic Antic is a Brooklyn Institution

The 35th annual Atlantic Antic, was once again Brooklyn's largest street festival! The 35th annual Atlantic Antic's featured ten live entertainment stages, over 600 vendors, pony rides, and inflatable rides.

Spanning 10 blocks of Atlantic Avenue, from 4th Avenue in Boerum Hill all the way to Hicks Street in Brooklyn Heights, the 2009 Atlantic Antic was fun for everyone looking for food, festivities, and finds.

Offering something for everyone, the ten live musical stages showcased free performances all day, featuring blues, rock, country, R&B, jazz, music for kids, drum circles, and belly-dancing. Kids and families enjoyed plenty of pony rides, face painting, balloon sculptures, live storytelling, and more!

Local and national craftspeople, food vendors, and nonprofits were intertwined with Atlantic Avenue's trendy restaurants and boutiques. Best known for its eclectic delicacies, the Antic featured an exciting array of foods from around the world, from baklava and funnel cake, to grilled sardines and pulled pork sandwiches. And who could forget street fair favorites like smoked sausage sandwiches, mozzarepas, and roasted corn.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation

The Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation swung open the gate at Pier 6 to give Atlantic Antic visitors a special sneak peak of the 1.5 acre playground that is sure to be Brooklyn’s premiere play destination. Visitors could see first hand how Slide Mountain and Swing Valley are taking shape and got a glimpse of the sandbox and water play area under construction. Set to open in early 2010, Pier 6 offers an inventive play destination with beautiful harbor views and lush plantings.

New York Transit Museum Bus Festival

In addition to the 10 fun filled blocks of the Atlantic Antic, the New York Transit Museum's 16th Annual Bus Festival was celebrated on October 4th at the Antic, taking place at the midway point of the festival, on Boerum Place. A collection of vintage buses dating all the way back to 1917 were on display and ready to board, and visitors enjoyed free admission to the museum, one block away on Schermerhorn Street.
