BROOKLYN'S BIGGEST STREET FESTIVAL TURNS 30!
Atlantic Antic Celebrates 3 Decades
Sunday September 26, 2004
August 23, 2004, Brooklyn, NY- On the last Sunday of
September, Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn will once again
be transformed into a mile-long bazaar where over half
a million people are expected for the Atlantic Antic
Street Festival 30th birthday celebration on Sunday
September 26 from 10AM-6PM. The "Antic" has become one
of New York's most popular annual events and takes place
annually on Atlantic Avenue from Hicks Street in Brooklyn
Heights/Cobble Hill to Fourth Avenue in Boerum Hill.
The festival is produced by the Atlantic Avenue Local
Development Corporation (LDC). It is free and open to
the public.
The 2004 event celebrates three decades of Antics. The
Main Stage located at Boerum Place, will feature emcee/deejay
King Pleasure spinning the sounds of 70's funk, rock
and reggae along with a live music set featuring Simon
Kirke, drummer for the seminal rock band Bad Company.
Other musical hot spots include: Sahadi's Arabic stage
with legendary Antic performer "Eddie the Sheik" and
belly dancers; rock & roll at Magnetic Field; a blues
stage at Pete's Waterfront Alehouse and a Kids Stage
at Urban Monster. Adding to the Festivities will be
the return of the national Cheesecake Eating Championship
and recording artist Dan Zanes signing his new release
"hello hello."
Cheesecake Eaters: On Your Mark, Get Set, Inhale!
After a rousing 2003 premiere, the World Cheesecake
Eating Championship will return to the Atlantic Antic.
Reigning champ, Eric "Badlands" Booker will be back
to defend his title -- earned after downing 50 cheesecakes
in 6 minutes at the 2003 Antic. The contest pits hyper-fast
eaters against one another in a race to see who can
consume the most cheesecake in 12 minutes. The event
is sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive
Eaters (IFOCE) and presented by Downtown Atlantic Restaurant
& Bakery located at 364 Atlantic Avenue.
In keeping with the tradition of fun and games, the
LDC will present a special Kids Antics area between
Court and Smith Streets with an array of kids activities:
pony rides with the Black Cowboys; the Gowanus Wildcats
Drill Team, Lulu's Haircuts for Kids; the Big Chair;
soccer drills; face painting; a bouncing castle; clowns
and more.
The Antic is renowned for some of the best street noshing
in New York with hundreds of food vendors and watering
holes to suit a myriad of tastes including an array
of ethnic foods, award winning BBQ, authentic middle
eastern cuisine and more.
