The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC) is a Section 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization committed to the economic development of the Atlantic Avenue area from Fourth Avenue to the waterfront in Brooklyn, New York.

The mission of AALDC is to further economic development, historic preservation, and cultural enrichment in the greater Atlantic Avenue area. AALDC provides information, advocacy, and produces events and projects that promote economic growth and vitality, for the preservation and development in downtown Brooklyn and neighboring communities.

In addition to the Atlantic Avenue Master Plan, the AALDC's recent activities have included implementation of streetscape improvements, outreach to property owners to encourage historic storefront preservation, and advocacy on issues of importance to the retail and residential community.

Find the AALDC's position statements below on these community advocacy issues: House of Detention, Atlantic Yards and Brooklyn Bridge Park.

House of Detention

The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC) has been working closely with various local community groups and elected officials regarding the potential reopening and expansion or redevelopment of the current Brooklyn House of Detention (HOD) site. These joint efforts resulted in a joint lawsuit against the City of New York and the city and state department of corrections in November of 2008. The lawsuit has recently been successfully settled to provide that the city may reopen the HOD but it may not seek to expand it without conducting certain environmental and other reviews. The lawsuit also provided for the creation of a Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) which will work closely with the community and the department of corrections on various issues related to the reopening. Through the CAC, the AALDC, together with the various local groups that have joined to address the future of the site, continue to work together to mitigate the impact of the HOD’s reopening on the community and the neighborhoods surrounding the HOD.

Atlantic Yards

The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC) was a founding sponsor organization which, together with the Municipal Arts Society and many other civic and community groups, created the BrooklynSpeaks website to advocate for responsible development of the Atlantic Yards site. The position of the AALDC and of the Brooklyn Speaks sponsor organizations is that we need a plan that works for Brooklyn, meaning one with greater transparency, with public input and with respect for the surrounding neighborhoods. Brooklyn Bridget Park
The Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALCD) is an active member of the Park Community Council (PCC). The PCC brings community groups that are supportive of Brooklyn Bridge Park together in constructive discussions to provide input into the Park's design and construction
